FPLP Shielded Fire Alarm Cable
WesBell FPLP Shielded Fire alarm cable is a limited plenum cable. It uses PVC insulated conductors and a red Flexguard® PVC jacket rated for 75°C and 300 volts. FPLP shielded cables are typically used to install fire alarms and burglar alarms inside plenum or duct. It can also be used for smoke detectors and voice communications when the cable is inside of plenum or duct.
FPLP Shielded Fire Alarm Cable Construction
Plenum PVC cables start with stranded bare copper, covered with a coating of tin for easier soldering in assembly work. The tinned copper strands are covered with PVC insulation, and each conductor is color coded with anywhere from 2 to 8 total conductors per cable. The outer jacket is a grade of semi-rigid PVC and rated for 300 volts and 75°C. The shield is an aluminum polyester foil layer over the conductors. The RED shielded PVC cable listed on our website also has a rip cord for easy installation.
FPLP Shielded Fire Alarm Cable Approvals
WesBell’s FPLP shielded cables use UL and RoHS approved conductors. UL provides different tests and approvals based on each UL style, of which this style is 300 volts and 75°C. If you need more voltage or a higher temperature rating you should ask our sales staff to quote it for you. There will be a different UL style to match the different voltage level, such as UL1015 is approved for 600 volts. This shielded cable is one of the basic “riser” fire alarm cables with a shield. It’s not designed in a cheap way, it just doesn’t have added bells and whistles that some applications require at an added cost, such as Plenum rated.
FPLP Shielded Fire Alarm Cable Applications
Generally, plenum shielded cables are used in plenum applications that block EMI (Electrical Magnetic Interference), such as wiring of fire alarms, smoke detectors, voice communications, burglar alarms and fire protective circuits. The same installations and applications might not have the need to block EMI (FPLR Unshielded) depending on the other cables located in the general area, but the installer or electrician should have that information.
Plenum PVC cables can also be considered a group of “hook up wires” in a neat and organized fashion. Instead of installing 10 individual wires that look messy, you can use a PVC cable to create a much neater installation of wires. Some wire harnesses use heat shrink tubing or zip ties to hold the wires together in an organized format. When 2 or 3 wires are being used some customers request them to be twisted together in order to hold their form as a unified wire, or to block EMI when more conductors are running close by.
FPLP Shielded Fire Alarm Cable Manufacturers
Several manufacturers make hook up wire and shielded cables. Both the conductors and jacket and made with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) so it’s easy for the manufacturers to make both hook up wire and PVC (FPLP) cables. General Cable, Quabbin Wire, Comtran and Cable Technology are a few manufacturers that WesBell uses as approved vendors. Each manufacturer designs their cables slightly different, so if you have a tight outer diameter tolerance, you should request the cable’s data sheet of the exact manufacturer that you plan to buy.
FPLP Shielded Fire Alarm Cable Services
WesBell is an ISO 9001 certified company that will also cut your cable to length, remove the outer jacket to a specified length, strip the insulation from each conductor to a specified length, remove the shield and dip each conductor (copper) into tin. Dipping the conductors into tin will avoid the individual strands from fraying during transit and also increase the connection process when the user solders each wire to their application. Furthermore, WesBell can crimp terminals (Molex, AMP, JST, etc.) to the ends of each conductors and insert them into a plastic house. We provide all of the added services needed, we supply the tooling and applicators, and we hold a release (package size) on the shelf for immediate shipment, when requested.
